Following a strong qualifying campaign, Will Antwi’s England U19s are gearing up for the UEFA U19 European Championship this June. The Young Lions will head to Romania, where they’ll face Norway, Germany and the Netherlands in the group stage. Only the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, with the group winners meeting the runners-up from the opposite pool. England will therefore be aiming to secure three wins to ensure a more favourable route through the knockout stages.
A challenging group and high stakes :
England enter the tournament unbeaten in 2025, having topped their elite qualifying group with wins over Wales (2-0) and Portugal (1-0), along with a goalless draw against Turkey. However, the level of opposition now steps up, with formidable sides like Germany and the Netherlands awaiting in the group stage, both posing serious tests for Antwi’s side.
To take on this challenge, Antwi has named a 21-man squad blending defensive resilience, midfield creativity and attacking flair. Chris Rigg, a Championship regular with Sunderland, and Lewis Miley, who impressed for Newcastle before suffering a serious injury, will be central to England’s midfield. In attack, much will be expected of Mikey Moore and Samuel Amo-Ameyaw, both of whom caught the eye during the back end of the season with Strasbourg, featuring prominently in Ligue 1, the Premier League and European competition, where Moore even made decisive contributions.
