Tom Pidcock and Charlie Aldridge delivered a British one-two at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy. Starting from the fifth row, Pidcock gradually fought his way through the field before taking control of the race on his own in the closing laps. The British rower won Sunday’s 2026 World Rowing Championships final in Amsterdam, securing her first individual World Championship title. Already European champion in Varese earlier this year, she has further confirmed with this latest victory that, in the space of just two years, she has become the current benchmark in the discipline. Ben Pritchard continues to set the standard in PR1 rowing. The British athlete won the final at the 2026 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam on Saturday, successfully defending the world title he claimed in Shanghai last year. Up against a field led by Australia’s Erik Horrie and Ukraine’s Roman Polianskyi, Pritchard never allowed the result to come into serious doubt. The 21-year-old British rider claimed Stage 5 on Wednesday, securing his second win of his maiden Grand Tour. The Aachen 2026 World Championships provided a major boost for the United Kingdom ahead of the 2028 Olympics, with Charlotte Fry, Rosalind Canter, Laura Collett and Harry Charles among the British riders who enjoyed an exceptionally successful week. The United Kingdom qualified all three of its Olympic teams — dressage, eventing and showjumping — for the 2028 Olympics, with each team also finishing on the podium. It was an outstanding overall performance, further strengthened by individual medals across all three disciplines. Only three other nations can already boast three qualified teams: the United States, automatically qualified as the host nation, alongside Belgium and Germany.
