England U18 bring their UEFA EURO U19 2027 qualifying campaign to a close today with a final fixture against Croatia, scheduled for 1:45pm. After an impressive opening win over Bulgaria (4-1), the Young Lions were then beaten by Spain, although their qualification hopes remain intact with three of the four teams progressing to the next round.
Despite that 3-1 defeat to Spain, Neil Ryan’s side still have their fate in their own hands heading into this final encounter. In that second outing, the Young Lions were tested by technically superior opposition, conceding early and forced to chase the game for long periods. Nevertheless, Chizaram Ezenwata continued his outstanding form, finding the net once again to make it three goals in two matches, and establishing himself as England’s main attacking threat. Around him, Reigan Heskey was lively throughout, notably winning the penalty that allowed England to get back into the contest, while players such as Reggie Walsh and Louis Page attempted to bring composure and control in midfield despite Spain’s dominance in possession. At the back, Jack Porter was called into action on several occasions, producing important saves to keep his side in the game for as long as possible.
Against Croatia, England will need to be more resilient in key moments and rediscover the clinical edge shown in their opening match. This decisive fixture will ultimately determine their progression to the next stage, where new groups will be formed and only the top team will qualify for the final tournament.
