England U18 are set to kick off the first phase of the newly formatted qualification pathway for the UEFA European U19 Championship 2027. Despite still being classified at U18 level, this generation is already fully integrated into the U19 qualifying structure. Having secured their place in League A following strong results at U17 level, the Young Lions face a challenging group featuring Croatia, Spain and Bulgaria.
A top-three finish will be enough to retain their League A status for the next round—an objective well within reach given the quality of the squad. This opening stage is primarily about maintaining their position among the elite, ahead of a far more demanding second phase, where—like in other age groups—only one team will ultimately progress to the final tournament.

A squad built on continuity
Neil Ryan has selected a 20-man squad featuring a blend of continuity and emerging talent. In goal, Jack Porter (Arsenal) is expected to take on the No.1 role. The defensive unit includes familiar names such as Wesley Okoduwa (Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Freddie Simmonds (Brighton & Hove Albion), both involved in previous camps, while Godwill Kukonki (Manchester United) returns to the fold a year after his last call-up.
In midfield, players like Harrison Miles (Manchester City), Reggie Walsh (Chelsea) and Louis Page (Leicester City) will be tasked with controlling the tempo and linking play.
Further forward, England boast a particularly exciting attacking line, led by talents such as Ryan McAidoo (Manchester City), Reigan Heskey—who impressed at last summer’s U17 World Cup—and Brighton’s Harry Howell. Also worth noting is the inclusion of Jeremy Monga, recently involved with the U19s, who brings added quality and versatility to this qualifying campaign.
