Among the young British swimmers making a name for themselves on the world stage, Amelie Blocksidge is certainly one to watch. However, another swimmer born in 2009 is also turning heads with numerous junior age-group records and the ability to compete with older swimmers: Theodora Taylor.

Theodora Taylor: An Impressive Medal Haul at Just 15
A breaststroke specialist, Taylor has demonstrated her versatility by winning medals across multiple swimming disciplines. At the 2023 European Youth Olympic Festival, she not only claimed silver in the 100m breaststroke but also won gold in the 50m freestyle, along with three additional silver medals in relay events. Later that year, she returned to Torfaen (a local authority area north of Cardiff) with an impressive haul of six medals: silver in the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, as well as bronze in both other breaststroke distances, the 200m individual medley, and the mixed 4x200m freestyle relay with the Welsh team.
She added two more medals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, narrowly missing gold in the latter by just one-hundredth of a second—competing against swimmers up to three years older. In the 100m breaststroke, where she secured bronze, the winner, Estonian Eneli Jefimova, is three years her senior and went on to finish seventh in the same event at the Paris Olympics, highlighting Taylor’s remarkable precocity.
By touching the wall in 1:08.59 to take third place at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Vilnius—while improving her personal best by more than half a second—Taylor etched her name into British swimming history. By just one-hundredth of a second, she broke the British 15-year-old record, which had stood since 2009 and was previously held by Rebecca Ajulu-Bushell.
