European Aquatics Championships 2026 : Maisie Bond crowned double European diving champion

By Arthur Le Neel August 4, 2026 5 minutes read

Two years after the Paris Olympic Games were held in the very same venue, Maisie Bond produced the standout performance of the 2026 European Aquatics Championships by completing a remarkable double in the women’s 10m platform events. At just 19 years of age, the British diver claimed the individual European title after already securing gold alongside Lois Toulson in the synchronised competition. It was a breakthrough performance that confirmed Bond as one of the brightest new faces in British diving and formed part of an outstanding start to the championships for the United Kingdom in the French capital.

Maisie Bond underlines British diving’s excellence with historic European double

Year after year, the United Kingdom continues to establish itself as one of the world’s leading diving nations. For well over a decade, the sport has consistently delivered medals on the biggest international stages. The foundations were laid by the likes of Tom Daley and Jack Laugher before the next generation, including Anthony Harding, Noah Williams, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson, carried that winning tradition forward. Now, another exciting talent has emerged, with Maisie Bond announcing herself among Britain’s elite.

The 2026 European Aquatics Championships, which bring together swimming, open water swimming, diving, artistic swimming and high diving, have once again highlighted the strength in depth across British aquatic sports. After four days of competition, the British team sits comfortably at the top of the medal table with six European titles and ten medals overall.

Success has not been confined to the diving pool either. In artistic swimming, Ranjuo Tomblin claimed two individual gold medals before securing a third alongside Isabelle Thorpe in the mixed duet free routine, with the British pair also taking victory in the technical event. Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe added bronze in the women’s technical duet, while in diving Jack Laugher and Jordan Houlden opened Britain’s medal tally by winning silver and bronze respectively in the men’s 1m springboard. Then came the athlete who has become the story of the championships so far: Maisie Bond.

Named Aquatics GB’s Emerging Athlete of the Year in 2024 following a string of impressive performances at junior level, Bond confirmed her enormous potential by sweeping the women’s 10m platform titles at the 2025 British Diving Championships, winning both the individual and synchronised events alongside Lois Toulson. Just a few weeks later, the pair finished fifth at the World Aquatics Championships, making them the highest-ranked European duo in the competition. For Bond, who was only 18 at the time, it proved to be invaluable experience at senior level.

Her first gold medal in Paris came in the women’s 10m synchronised platform alongside the vastly experienced Lois Toulson. The British pair arrived knowing the European title was within reach, but they were pushed all the way by Germany’s Pauline Pfeif and Elena Wassen. Locked in a close battle throughout the contest, Bond and Toulson produced their finest dives in the final two rounds, the most technically demanding sections of their programme. Their execution on the highest degree-of-difficulty dives allowed them to reclaim the lead before finishing with another superbly synchronised effort.

Their winning total of 300.06 points left them just under two points clear of Germany’s 298.20, underlining the exceptional standard of the final while also delivering a new personal best for the British partnership.

For Toulson, already an Olympic medallist and now a three-time European champion with three different partners, the victory added yet another prestigious title to an already glittering career. For Bond, however, it represented her very first senior international medal. It could hardly have been a better way to begin her European Championships and provided the perfect confidence boost ahead of the individual event.

Two days later, the 19-year-old produced another outstanding display to claim the women’s 10m platform title. Yet the road to gold was far from straightforward. During the morning preliminary round, Bond endured a difficult finish to her competition. Having been among the leading contenders throughout qualification, a disappointing final dive saw her slip to fifth place on 287.70 points. While the score was still comfortably enough to secure one of the 12 places available in the final, it was hardly the ideal way to head into the evening session.

When the final got underway, however, Bond looked like a completely different diver. Composed from the opening round, she remained within touching distance of defending European silver medallist Pauline Pfeif before producing a superb fourth dive that ultimately proved decisive. Executing one of the most difficult dives in the competition with impressive precision, Bond took control of the standings just as several of her closest rivals began to make costly mistakes, allowing the British diver to extend her advantage heading into the final rotation.

Leading by more than twenty points before the last dive, Bond put the disappointment of her morning finish firmly behind her. Delivering a clean and controlled final effort without unnecessary risk, she completed the competition with a winning total of 327.05 points.

Behind her, Pfeif mounted a late challenge but ultimately had to settle for silver with 305.30 points, while the Netherlands’ Else Praasterink secured bronze on 305.15. It completed a memorable double for Bond, whose performances across both events confirmed that British diving has another genuine star capable of competing for major international honours for years to come.
