Arvid Lindblad, a young British racing driver born in 2007, is currently making waves in the motorsport world. At just 17, he is already regarded as one of the brightest talents in Red Bull’s programme, alongside Max Verstappen, and his meteoric rise shows no signs of slowing down. After an impressive 2024 Formula 3 season, where he claimed four victories and finished fourth in the championship, Arvid is making the leap to Formula 2 in 2025 with Campos Racing. If his performances continue on this trajectory, he could well be featuring on the Formula 1 grid as early as 2026.

A Rapid Rise Through the Junior Ranks
Arvid Lindblad’s journey is that of a prodigy who has continued to turn heads since his early days in karting. He started racing at just five years old and quickly caught the attention of talent scouts. By the age of 13, he had already won the 2020 WSK Super Master Series, which led Red Bull to take a serious interest in him. Recruited into the Austrian outfit’s driver academy in 2021, Lindblad kept racking up the accolades. In 2023, he dominated the early part of the Italian F4 season, winning multiple races before reliability issues cost him the title. However, it was in Formula 3 with Prema Racing that Lindblad truly made his mark, finishing the 2024 season with four wins and an impressive fourth-place finish in the standings, despite being the youngest driver on the grid.
His rapid progress has inevitably drawn comparisons to other Red Bull-backed stars like Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel, who both had similarly rapid ascents through the junior ranks. Verstappen, in particular, famously skipped Formula 2 altogether to go straight into F1.
Securing the Super Licence: A Dream Becoming Reality
To take the next step, Lindblad travelled to New Zealand at the start of 2025 to compete in the Formula Regional Oceania Championship. Not only did he dominate the series, winning the title with nearly 60 points over his closest rival, but he also secured 18 crucial Super Licence points. This FIA-mandated requirement ensures that only drivers with a proven track record can enter Formula 1, with 40 points needed to qualify.
Even before his Formula 2 debut on March 15, Lindblad has already accumulated 43 points, comfortably exceeding the threshold. His Oceania triumph, combined with his previous success in F4 and F3, has put him firmly on the path to F1, with free practice outings already a possibility for this year. By 2026, if an opportunity arises, perhaps if Liam Lawson fails to convince Red Bull, Lindblad will be fully eligible to step into an F1 seat. Red Bull’s strategy to send him to Oceania has proven to be a masterstroke, allowing him to secure the necessary points without facing overly stiff competition while also preparing him for a smooth transition into Formula 1. Closely monitored by Helmut Marko, who has frequently sung his praises, Lindblad could become the fifth British driver on the grid in 2026, alongside Hamilton, Norris, Russell, and Bearman.
High Expectations from Red Bull
For Red Bull, the long-term objective is clear: to groom the next superstar who could eventually succeed Max Verstappen. Helmut Marko has already acknowledged that Verstappen’s career may not be as long as those of Fernando Alonso or Lewis Hamilton, making succession planning crucial. Lindblad, despite his youth, has already impressed Red Bull’s top brass, with Marko calling him the “biggest talent” in their current junior programme.
However, Formula 2 will be the real proving ground for Lindblad, where he will face more experienced competition. In 2025, he will be the youngest driver on the grid, two years younger than the next-youngest competitors and seven years younger than the oldest. Red Bull knows that talent alone won’t be enough, he must consistently deliver results and stand out against established names.
If Lindblad rises to the challenge, he could well find himself in F1 by 2026. His upcoming F1 test sessions and potential free practice outings, possible from August 8, when he turns 18, will be key indicators of his progress. The door to a future in Formula 1 with Red Bull is already open, now, it’s up to him to step through it.
