2025 Friendly Matches: England U21’s Starting XI to Face Portugal

By Arthur Le Neel March 24, 2025 2 minutes read

This Monday at 7:45 PM, England U21 will take on Portugal at West Bromwich Albion’s stadium. These two nations boast some of the strongest talent pools at the U21 level, making this a must-watch encounter despite the low sporting stakes of a friendly match.

England’s lineup for the match against Portugal:

The England squad, called up less than a week ago by former senior team coach Lee Carsley, features a wealth of young talent. Several players, despite their age, have already established themselves as key figures for their clubs this season, including Jarrad Branthwaite (Center-Back – Everton FC), Ethan Nwaneri (Attacking Midfielder/Right Winger – Arsenal FC) or Elliott Anderson (Central Midfielder – Nottingham Forest, not the most well-known name, but a key player in his club’s third-place Premier League campaign) Additionally, the highly talented Jobe Bellingham, younger brother of Jude Bellingham, who is carving out his own career at Sunderland, will be one to watch tonight as he starts in the lineup.

England’s starting XI:

James Beadle (Sheffield Wednesday)
Charlie Cresswell (Toulouse FC)
Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton FC)
Jack Hinshelwood (Brighton and Hove Albion)
Samuel Iling Junior (Middlesbrough)
Archie Gray (Tottenham Hotspur)
Hayden Hackney (Middlesbrough)
Jobe Bellingham (Sunderland)
Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal FC)
Harvey Elliott (Liverpool FC)
Omari Hutchinson (Ipswich Town FC)

Founder and editor of Britannia Sport, I have, since 2023, chronicled the unfolding story of British sport, with a particular eye for emerging talent and the fortunes of our national teams. With a deep‑rooted passion for football, athletics, rugby and swimming, my understanding of sport has been shaped by the great international competitions, where national achievements take precedence over individual glory. A keen admirer of statistics, I take pleasure in casting light on athletes and disciplines too often overlooked, while offering a broad and exacting coverage of British sport in all its richness.
