From 26 to 31 May, the city of Leipzig will host the 2025 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, bringing together 38 nations to compete for continental titles. Great Britain will field both a men’s and women’s team that blend Olympic experience with exciting new talent. While the spotlight is likely to fall on big names such as Jake Jarman and 18-year-old Ruby Evans who represented her country at last summer’s Olympic Games, a younger generation of gymnasts is poised to make a breakthrough. Among them are Frances Stone and Jonas Rushworth, the youngest members of the two squads, both tipped for a major step forward on the European stage. This year’s edition will also break new ground by introducing, for the first time ever, a mixed team final, an innovative format combining male and female gymnasts in a single competition.

Ambitious squads flying the flag for Britain’s next generation.
Both the men’s and women’s teams demonstrate a carefully considered balance between seasoned competitors and rising stars. On the women’s side, Ruby Evans brings composure and experience far beyond her years. With an Olympic campaign already behind her and a team silver medal from the last European Championships, she will be a key figure for a youthful and fearless squad.
Alongside her is 15-year-old Frances Stone, a true emerging talent who has already made headlines on the domestic circuit. The Amber Valley gymnast claimed three medals at the British Championships in March : gold on beam, silver on vault and silver in the all-around, making her the youngest athlete across the entire European Championships field. Emily Roper also secured her place in the squad with a gold medal on the uneven bars and a bronze in the all-around at the same competition. Then there’s Alia Leat, who recently returned to top-level gymnastics with a bang, winning the national all-around title in March after a career hiatus. Her inclusion in the team signals a major comeback on the international scene.
Over on the men’s team, the depth of talent is just as striking. Three Olympians form the core of the squad: world medalist and floor specialist Jake Jarman, and the Leeds-based duo of Harry Hepworth and Luke Whitehouse. Yet all eyes will also be on 19-year-old Jonas Rushworth, a breakout star in 2023 who now earns his first senior European call-up. Hailing from the same Leeds Gymnastics Club as Hepworth and Whitehouse, Rushworth has impressed selectors with his consistency and versatility across apparatus, having already shown promise at junior international level.
Jamie Lewis, the 2025 British all-around champion, adds further strength to the men’s roster. His reliable form and technical prowess make him one to watch in Leipzig. Rounding off the squad is the vastly experienced Courtney Tulloch known globally for his strength on the rings. The South Essex gymnast will bring leadership and medal potential in the apparatus finals.
With the women’s squad entering a rebuilding phase and the men’s side boasting both veterans and exciting prospects, British Gymnastics heads to Leipzig with high hopes across the board. This European Championships could well mark the rise of a new generation destined to lead Team GB through the next Olympic cycle and into Los Angeles 2028.
