This Tuesday at 2:30pm, England U17 take on Scotland at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium as their qualification campaign for the UEFA U17 European Championship gets underway. Drawn into a competitive group alongside Sweden and Lithuania, the Young Lions will be keen to make a strong start this afternoon — a crucial first step in building confidence and putting themselves in the best possible position to top the group and seal their place in the next round.

A European campaign for the 2009 generation
Liam Bramley has called up a squad of 22 players, several of whom were involved in the September camp. There are also a handful of new additions, including goalkeeper Tommy Betts (Sheffield United), Chelsea midfielder Charlie Holland — earning his first U17 call-up — and Arsenal forward Kyran Thompson. Another notable inclusion is Chelsea’s Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli, born in 2010, who continues his progression into the older age category.
FC Metz striker Brian Madjo is also part of the squad. Born in London but raised and developed in Luxembourg, he has already featured for Luxembourg’s youth and senior sides in friendly fixtures. During the most recent camp in September, he turned down a call-up from the Luxembourg FA to reflect on his international future — eventually choosing to join England.
