Nia Wedderburn-Goodison awarded bronze medal following Adaejah Hodge’s disqualification

By Arthur Le Neel March 17, 2026 2 minutes read

Nearly two years on from the women’s 100 metres final at the World U20 Championships in Lima, Nia Wedderburn-Goodison has seen her result upgraded. Originally finishing fourth, the British sprinter has now been awarded the bronze medal following Adaejah Hodge’s disqualification for a doping violation. The decision, confirmed by the Athletics Integrity Unit, reshapes the podium and retrospectively recognises the Briton’s performance.

In the 2024 final, Wedderburn-Goodison clocked 11.46 seconds to place fourth, behind Alana Reid (11.17), Adaejah Hodge (11.27) and Kishawna Niles (11.37). With Hodge’s results from that period annulled, the Brit moves up one place and onto the world junior podium.

Hodge’s positive test involved two prohibited substances (GW501516 sulfone and sulfoxide), detected during the championships. Suspended from August 2024 to January 2026, the British Virgin Islands athlete has had all results from that period disqualified, including her 100m silver medal and her 200m world title, which is now awarded to Australia’s Torrie Lewis.

This medal underlines the level Wedderburn-Goodison had already shown at the time. European U18 champion in 2022, she was widely regarded as one of Britain’s most promising sprint prospects. In Lima, she had qualified for the final with the second-fastest time in the semi-finals, highlighting her ability to compete with the world’s best juniors despite finishing fourth in the final.

Since then, Wedderburn-Goodison has continued her progression. In 2025, she claimed silver in the 100 metres at the European U23 Championships in Bergen before securing gold as part of Great Britain’s 4x100m relay team. She also impressed at the World Relays, winning gold in the women’s relay and a medal in the mixed event, confirming her transition to the senior ranks.

Founder and editor of Britannia Sport, I have, since 2023, chronicled the unfolding story of British sport, with a particular eye for emerging talent and the fortunes of our national teams. With a deep‑rooted passion for football, athletics, rugby and swimming, my understanding of sport has been shaped by the great international competitions, where national achievements take precedence over individual glory. A keen admirer of statistics, I take pleasure in casting light on athletes and disciplines too often overlooked, while offering a broad and exacting coverage of British sport in all its richness.
