The England U20 side — now officially known as the England Elite Squad — led by Ben Futcher, is preparing to face Japan during the November international break. As was the case in October, the Young Lions will play just one fixture, scheduled for Friday 14 November at 7:30pm (local time) at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster. After a narrow defeat to Switzerland last month in Chesterfield, England will be keen to respond and build momentum.
A mix of regulars and welcome returns
This U20 squad draws on an exciting generation, with several players already having sampled senior football. Among them, Jayden Meghoma — on loan at Rangers from Brentford — has impressed in the Scottish Premiership and is expected to be the defensive leader of the group.
In attack, England may look to Sam Amo-Ameyaw, the young forward from RC Strasbourg, who has made promising early appearances in Ligue 1. The squad also includes two first-time call-ups: Manchester City defensive midfielder Charlie Gray, and Micah Mbick, the Charlton forward currently on loan at Colchester United.
Midfield creativity will be driven by Shea Lacey, Manchester United’s standout talent who earns a second consecutive call-up after nearly two years out of the national setup, as well as Harrison McMahon, continuing his upward trajectory at Chelsea. This November selection highlights a strong presence of players gaining senior experience on loan in lower divisions — evidence of Futcher’s intent to offer valuable competitive minutes to England’s emerging talent.
