England U20, now officially known as the England Elite Squad — take on Japan in their sole fixture of this November international window. Scheduled for Friday 14 November at 7:30pm (local time) at Doncaster’s Eco Power Stadium, the Young Lions will be desperate to respond after last month’s narrow 1–0 defeat against Switzerland in Chesterfield.

A blend of regulars and returning faces
This England U20 squad is built around a highly talented generation, with several players already exposed to senior professional football. Among them is Jayden Meghoma, currently on loan at Rangers from Brentford, who has impressed in the Scottish Premiership and is expected to be the side’s leading defender once again.
In attack, the focal point will likely be Etha Wheatley and Joel Ndala. Initially called up, Sam Amo-Ameyaw, the young RC Strasbourg forward who has made promising early strides in Ligue 1 has been upgraded to the U21 and won’t be available. The squad also includes one player receiving his first-ever England call-up: Micah Mbick, the Charlton striker currently on loan at Colchester United. Charlie Gray, the Manchester City’s defensive midfielder who was also in this situation had to withdrew through injury and will need to wait a little bit more before making his England debut.
The midfield will be driven by Shea Lacey, Manchester United’s highly regarded gem who earns a second consecutive call-up after nearly two years away from international duty. Lacey is thought to be particularly appreciated by U21 head coach Lee Carsley, who recently invited him to train with the age group above.
Once again, Ben Futcher has given significant opportunities to players out on loan in the lower leagues — a clear sign of his intention to offer meaningful minutes to emerging talents across the pathway.
